Introducing GGT/AV
Welcome!

GGT/AV provides an essential service to the greater Gippsland and Melbourne regions, offering career opportunities and high quality training to around 1250 apprentices and trainees. Our speciality is traditional trades, so our training and employment services are designed around these industries. We were set up as a not-for-profit, group training organisation to meet the specific needs of industry and employers, and we understand how to make apprenticeships work for your business. Our organisation contributes positively to the economic development of the regions that we serve by producing confident, highly qualified young tradespeople.
Our achievements over the past two decades have placed us at the forefront of the education and training sector. We are partners with the Federal and State governments,Tafe colleges, industry groups, and universities. We are internationally recognised as a leader in the training industry and are regularly consulted by employer groups, governments and educators on vocational education and training matters.
We believe we can offer apprentices and employers the best apprenticeships in Australia. As a non-profit organisation, we are dedicated to developing a skilled workforce for tomorrow, and to keeping costs as low as possible for our valued host employers.
History
Gippsland Group Training was one of two regional companies that originally pioneered the concept of ‘group training’ back in 1982.
Starting as a small apprenticeship organisation in the Latrobe Valley in 1982, GGT soon had offices throughout Gippsland, offering first employment and later training services to young adults. We are, and have always been, a not-for-profit organisation, with surpluses being reinvested back into our organisation to improve and expand the services we offer to the community.
In 1994 after more than a decade of consistent growth, Apprenticeships Victoria (or AV) was formed as the Melbourne division of GGT. Our training programs were soon expanded (in 1998) to include a string of Australian Apprenticeships Centres, which have provided advice and support of every kind to apprentices and employers for nearly 10 years now.
Today, we operate out of more than a dozen locations throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria, and employ a staff of around 100 people.
Achievements
Amongst our current achievements, we hold multi-million dollar contracts with the Australian Government and partnerships with Monash University and other leaders in national education.
We have experienced around 150% growth in the past decade and have an annual turnover in excess of A$45 million. Our financial strength is partly the result of our status as not-for-profit organisation, as we reinvest our surpluses back into making our great organisation even better. This allows us to keep our hiring costs low, and to continue to invest in the regions that we serve.
Our greatest achievement, though, are the tens of thousands of young people in Victoria who got their start in a career with GGT/AV, and who successfully emerged with full trade qualifications. As specialists in traditional trades we have a much higher sucess rate for apprentices than the national average. Many of our apprentices have gone on to great things in Australia and abroad, and some are today our ‘next generation’ of host employers and GGT/AV staff.
The care, energy and professionalism of our dedicated staff have made us leaders in training and recognised by employers as an outstanding business to work with.
